Like Coffee? Like Tea? Like a Good Mystery?
I love to read. I am so sad that I don’t have the time that I used to to just sit and read a book. Other than when we go to the VA, I am usually reading books ALOUD if at all. And those generally have vocabulary like: One Fish…Two Fish…Red Fish…Blue Fish…
Hardly stimulating for even my overworked mind.
Tiffany gave me the heads up about the Coffee House Mysteries. That’s what friends are for, right?
I really like them. Some of the first books in the series I could only find used, but hte author is coming out with a new book one the 30th of September.
This are perfect “take a break” books, to keep next to your tea cup and favorite chair. They are inexpensive…Don’t you hate paying 12.95 for a paperback? I do! Anyway, these are 6.99.
A cool thing about them is that the books include recipes. It just seems to hit me on all levels, it feeds my inner foodie, while keeping me entertained! Lots of details to delight your inner barista as well.
The characters move and grow throughout the books, they are not static. I like that because nothing is worse than a character that is just as stupid n book 6 as they were in book 1, right?
Could I have found something I like as well as Jan Karon’s Mitford series?
Could be!
Has anyone else read these? Thoughts?

I’m so glad you like them!!! I agree with you that the characters keep growing….and the recipes!! I’ve made a few of them and they’re yummy!!
There’s a Tea Shop mystery series too. I forgot the author…the first book is “Death by Darjeeling”. I didn’t like those though. :-o
But I do love the Coffeehouse books. I’m anxiously waiting for the new one!!!

The teashop mysteries are by Laura Childs…she also has a scrapbooking mystery series and another one due out later in the year. Then you have Susan Wittig Alberts herb series that does include a teashop, and recipes in the back…

I have not seen these, but I have read the Tea Shop mysteries. Another one that I love is the series by Joanne Fluke. They are murder mysteries and the titles are always food, the latest one was Carrot Cake. These books have recipes in them as well. How can you go wrong, really? Mystery and recipes…perfect!

I’ve read one of the coffehouse mysteries, and own two more - just haven’t gotten to them yet.
I love Joanne Fluke’s books also - have read all of them. Her next book comes out in 2009.

Thanks for the lead on a new series, Marye! The library had them, and I read the first and have the second on hold.
One of the first “cooking and murder” authors was a lady named Virginia Rich. She wrote three books in the early 1980’s. The first one is “The Cooking School Murders”, the second is “The Baked Bean Supper Murders” and the last is “The Nantucket Diet Murders”. She died shortly after the last was released.
OH! I just did a quick search and discovered someone else wrote two more books using the author’s notes…I’ll have to track those down and see if they are any good…
