For Peet’s Sake:Major Dickason’s Blend

by Marye on February 15th, 2008

I have honestly never tried Peet’s coffee before.  I have seen it, heard some good things about it, but never tried it.

Yesterday Marc and I realized, once again, we were out of coffee.  There was just not enough time to call the roaster and get it ordered and here in time.  I was facing another cold, caffeine free Saturday.

Grocery store coffee does  not thrill me a whole lot. But the choice had to be made.  Grocery store or caffeine headache?

Well, the Peet’s was on sale, it looked interesting, and frankly, I would have been glad to drink manure tea at that point.  I grabbed it.

Major Dickason’s blend.  It sounded very British, which is an odd way for a coffee to sound. I sure hoped Major Dickason was a good judge of coffee.

The aroma is very rich.  It fills the kitchen with that coffee smell that most of us are addicted to.

Peet’s describes it as a full bodied coffee with a balanced flavor.  I agree with that.  It is very dark, but there is no bitterness in the aftertaste.  The coffee is good black, and there are few coffees that I will say that about.  Keep in mind that when I add cream to my coffee I add heavy cream, and the flavor stood up well to the cream.

This is as close to my personal blend as I have ever tasted.  That is the highest praise I can give it, and I will definitely be sampling more of Peet’s coffee over the next few months.

You know, you really need to just build a hothouse and grow your own.

And you know what? We’re out of creamer. Out of everything I need to make it, too. Aren’t we a pair?

But Julie…being out of creamer doesn’t give you headaches.

Now being out of filters….. It’s a good thing I have cloth napkins.

    Julie and Ginger..LOL!

We use a permanent filter for the coffee..better for the environment and I like the coffee from it better. Cloth napkins could work..
I dunno, Julie, maybe you need a goat. When I am out of cream I just go milk… ;)

    Milk. Ew.

Ginger, when I am out of creamer, I do get a headache. It’s huge, 6 foot 5 and 250 lbs of headache, moaning about creamer.

Marye, milk in coffee is a sin. It really is. Something so tasty that was given to us, defiled by MILK. Lactose gives some people a nasty tummy ache!

I have a 6 foot 5 in., 250 lb. headache as well, but he likes coffee with molasses and ??? ::::shuddering just to think of it::::::::
The rest of the time he just lectures me on why I shouldn’t drink coffee…. Why creamer is bad for me. etc. I try not to let that spoil my coffee.

I like molasses in it, if it is in a small amount. Brown sugar instead of white will do it for me, gives a neat flavor.

I’d get a goat, Marye, but my neighbors would complain. Inside the city there is a law against farm animals as pets, too, which stinks. I could use 12 chickens.

We raise Nigerian Dwarf goats, the are about the size of a good sized golden retriever. One couple that bought from us kept theirs in the house. :D
