2-3 Cups of Coffee a Day Reduces Breast Cancer Risk

by Marye on April 29th, 2008

 starbucks coffee

YAY!

According to researchers having two to three cups of coffee a day reduces, or delays the risk of breast cancer depending on the gene variant a woman has.

The research was done on over 460 breast cancer patients.  Researchers found that coffee was related to the female sex hormones and that coffee alters the female metabolism so that a woman acquires a better configuration of estrogens.

Caffeine has also been found to slow the growth of cancer cells.

It is also thought to cut the risk of ovarian cancer, and if you drink six cups a day it could cut your risk for skin cancer.

You will be moving too fast for the UV’s to catch you!

What do you think? Are you going to consider drinking more coffee? Are you trying to cut down as it is?

And most researchers say too much caffeine is bad for you. I only drink 1 cup about 4-5 times a week because my body can’t handle 2+ cups daily. I drank it every day but I would get horrible withdraw headaches if I missed a day, so I’m trying to cut back.

Carla- I do find it interesting though, that researchers continue to find conflicting *facts* every five to ten years..I drink alot of coffee a day..but I also drink alot of water.. :)

Ginger- yeah I am thinking that with my caffeine intake I will have been dead for ten years before my body stops moving, and people figure it out. :)

Right now I drink 1-2 cups a day or about a million if I’m visiting with mom. :)
I think I’ll keep it at that and continue wearing sunscreen (which I do everyday on my face) for those UV rays!

I cut out caffeine when I got pregnant. But before that, to be perfectly honest, I never felt too guilty about my 2-3 cup a day habit. I plan on going right back to it after the baby’s born. I figure there are worse things to be addicted too :-)
